GURGAON: If you have rented out your apartment and have yet not got a tenant verification
done, this should worry you. The Gurgaon police have arrested 13 landlords for failing to get a proper tenant verification done. This number, according to police officials, will go up.The police have stepped up the drive to streamline the security for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Gurgaon is home to a large floating population. We have been asking landlords and apartment owners to get their tenants verified, but the response hasnt been good so far. With the Commonwealth Games approaching, we have intensified the verification drive. The ones who still havent got their tenants checked will be arrested under Section 188 of IPC (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), said Vikas Arora, DCP(East).
The arrests have been made in areas like Sushant Lok, Sectors 29, 56 and Sadar. Subsequently, many apartment owners and landlords are now flocking police stations.
The screening drive is part of Gurgaon polices security preparation for the Games. The shooting event will be held in the adjoining CRPF campus.
Gurgaon district magistrate Rakesh Gupta had in May directed all employers and general public to report about their tenants and domestic servants to the nearest police station. But the response was low.
The renewed drive has taken tenants by surprise. Many were to be seen outside police stations, busy fixing verification papers. I have been living in this house for over four years now and have never been asked by my landlord to submit proof of my identity and other credentials. However, last week he came and asked for my photo and other information that left me zapped, said Arun Kumar, a DLF phase-3 resident.
