1. What is Pre-employment background screening?
 
  Pre-employment background screening is the term used for the checking of an applicants CV details when they are applying for a new position. Academic and professional qualifications are checked with the appropriate institutions, dates of employment are checked with payroll departments and reference checks are sought from past line managers.
 
 
 
2. Why should a company undertake Pre-employment background screening?
 
  A staggering percentage of people commit fraud to obtain employment. Once that person is on the company's payroll, it may be difficult to remove them when their inadequacies become evident. They may also do enormous damage to the company whilst in their employ. There are many examples of companies that have lost millions, even hundreds of millions of dollars by having one rogue employee who may never have commenced work had they been properly screened.
 
 
 
3. Where do you get the information from?
   
 
•  AuthBridge sources information from authorized databases, registered institutions and by using internet resources.
•  Telephonic or physical verification is done where needed.
 
 
 
4. What is your turnaround time?
   
 
•  AuthBridge will complete a check typically within 15 working days.
•  Exceptions will be highlighted to the client within 10 working days along with reasons for delay.
•  An interim report with a complete list of auditable trail of actions including incomplete checks will be handed over to the client within prescribed timeframe.
 
 
 
5. Does the applicant need to sign or receive any forms?
   
  Applicant needs to sign an authorization letter to allow the background verification.
 
 
 
6. What is the procedure in the event of an adverse action?
   
  Our role as a pre-employment background screening company ends with providing factually correct information to our client. This information is obtained through a mix of primary and secondary sources. In the event of an element of information found negative the client may initiate an adverse action against the concerned individual. AuthBridge has no role to play in this decision making and its subsequent outcomes if any.
 
 
 
7. How is the pre-employment background screening process structured?
 
   
•  AuthBridge customizes the pre-employment background screening process to suit each client's specific needs.
•  Customized reports with details as per client requirement are provided on each case.
•  A complete list of auditable trail of actions taken can be provided by AuthBridge on request for any or all cases.
 
 
 
8. If a criminal conviction or pending case is located, does that necessarily mean that an applicant is eliminated?
   
  The decision here is taken by the client.
 
 
 
9. What do employers check in a pre-employment background verification?
   
  Employers check the facts mentioned in the resume and the application form regarding education, professional experience, address and references.
 
 
 
10. What is the most common lie told in Resume's?
   
  Commonly most candidates embellish or fake their academic qualifications. Candidates also lie about previous work history in order to hide prior criminal convictions, gaps or unsatisfactory work histories. There is almost no limit to what people will do to obtain employment.
 
 
 
11. Why is there need to verify the details of a submitted Certificate?
   
  There are ways of procuring false documentation. The unscrupulous can obtain a degree from just about any Institution in the world for a fee. False passports, false drivers licence, false academic qualifications, false Resume's can all be obtained. Academic and Professional Qualifications need to be checked with the original source to verify that they are genuine.
 
 
 
12. Can a pre-employment background check be done without telling the employee?
   
•No. The employee has to sign a form agreeing to the terms of the pre-employment background check.
 
 
 
 
13. What is the pricing structure?
 
   
•  Pricing is modular & menu driven.
•  Fees will be charged on the basis of cases being given by the client & efforts carried out within an agreed Service Level Agreement timeframe.

15. How can an employer deal with an applicant's concerns about privacy?
 
   
• Most customers find it helpful to explain four things to an applicant:
a)  The employer's primary concern is a safe work place.
b)  Information provided by the applicant on the resume and job application are verified.
c)  Only publicly available sources are used for verification. The applicant will have the opportunity to clarify any discrepancies in the background report before an adverse decision is made.
 
 
 
16. Does the candidate have to be an employee of my company before we complete a pre-employment background screening on them?
   
  No. Any person can be checked as long as they have signed an authority document allowing the prospective employer company and their agents to complete the Pre-employment background screening.
 
 
 
17. Can a company do their own pre employment screening?
   
  Yes, they can but there are distinct benefits in having an independent company like AuthBridge do the checks.
 
  Firstly, as our core business, our network can screen people from most parts of the world, depending on legislation and protocols in those countries. We can obtain the information from institutions and companies more expeditiously because of our contacts.
 
  Additionally, we are independent. We have no contact with the candidate and we report our unbiased findings for assessment. We dovetail our procedures with the HR department in order to provide a seamless and cost effective method of candidate screening.
 
 
 
18. Are there some specific areas of concern regarding fraud?
   
  Fraud is endemic. A way of fraud prevention is reference checking. Many companies do not check reference details and many references are taken at face value without recourse to the referee.
 
 
 
19. Can we screen the staff from our contracting companies?
   
  Contracts, policies and procedures can be altered to stipulate that all staff from contracting companies must be screened by AuthBridge before commencing their contract within your organization. The level of screening can be customized to suit the needs of the contract service being provided. Contract companies will be requested to provide the screening details for all potential contract staff. Staff will be allowed to commence contract work upon the successful completion of the screening process.
 
 
20. How does pre-employment background screening fit into the current policy and procedures of a company when hiring new personnel?
   
  There are a number of ways that Pre-employment background screening can fit into a company's current policy and procedures. Here we have listed the procedures used by some of our clients:
 
  Probation Period
  If there is a probationary period for new employees, a clause stipulating that the appointment will be finalized on satisfactory completion of the Pre-employment background screening process can be added.
 
  Contract Position
  If the employee takes up the position under contract, the position will be made permanent on the successful completion of the Pre-employment background screening process.
 
  Delay Start Date
  The candidate does not commence employment until the screening process has been satisfactorily completed.
 
  Letter of Offer

 

The “Letter of Offer” stipulates that the offer is dependent on achieving a satisfactory result in the Pre-employment background screening process.
