We have received inputs that militants in guise of ten- ants may cause trouble, so immediate action is necessary for the prevention of the same.
ORDER FROM DELHI COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
|

If you have rented out your premises and still haven’t verified your tenants with the police, be ready to face six months’ imprisonment.

In wake of fresh inputs received by the police that terrorists or anti-social elements may seek hideouts in residential areas, police would soon start a crackdown on those flouting the norms. Last year over 300 people were jailed for not adhering to the orders and getting their tenants verified.

"Any person contravening the order shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code," an order issued by the Commissioner of Police Y.S. Dadwal reads.

The order states that no landlord shall rent out any accommodation to any person until and unless he has furnished the records of the tenant to the Station House officer (SHO) of the area.

"The persons dealing in property business shall also inform in writing to the SHO concerned in whose jurisdiction the premises falls about particulars of the said tenant," the order reads.

It comes in wake of the coming Independence Day celebrations. "We have received inputs that militants in guise of tenants may cause trouble. So immediate action is necessary for the prevention of the same," said the order. Non-verification of tenants is punishable under Section 188 of the IPC (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
