New Delhi: Buying degrees and fake marksheeets for a quick job seems like an unstoppable menace. But to put an end to the menace, technology has now lent a helping hand.

The use of a tiny gadget called the Radio Frequency Identification Chip is the initiative by taken the University of Hyderabad to check fake certificates.

The tiny chip will contain the student's mark sheet and other information. The university is helped by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in this novel venture. But for students, the certificates come at a cost, as they would be charged between 300 rupees and 500 rupees.

"Students won't mind paying few hundred rupees extra to get a tamper proof certificate. Also, if the employees start insisting on this tamper proof certificates, it'll be a small investment for students. We hope it'll be a big success," says Head-Technology Division, TCS, Dr M Vidyasagar.

The companies that plan to hire these students also stand to benefit, as these certificates are tamper-proof. They can now hire the best talent without worrying if their certificates are genuine.

"You can verify as well as you'll find students who are available with requisite qualifications for their suitable employment" says registrar, University of Hyderabad, Prof Y Narsimhulu.

The TCS is now making an effort to rope in 20 to 25 companies and promote this latest technology in other institutes as well.
